New Year, New Habits: Tips for Success in 2018

If you’d like to be successful in 2018, you have to behave like a “successful” person. This means that you have to be organized, make plans, follow through, and monopolize your time in the best way possible. It’s a new year, so reinvent yourself with these new habits to ensure you accomplish all of your goals.

Plan out Your Day

You can just go through the day aimlessly if you would like to make your goals a reality. Therefore, planning out your day is essential. Consider writing down your list of things to do at night. This way, when you wake up the next day, you have a clear view of what needs to be accomplished and it will be much easier to stay on task.

Make Health a Priority

Having good health is a great goal for anyone to set. Being healthy will help you to better stay focused on your tasks and will give you the momentum you need to get things done. So, aim to increase your physical, mental, and emotional health this year.

Physical:

To increase your physical health, consider going to the gym, meditating, practicing Yoga, or taking a morning run. This will get your blood pumping, ease your mind, and set you on the right track each day.

Mental:

The things that you put in definitely affect your mindset. So, ease your mind by paying close attention to what you read, watch, or listen to. A good book is always a great option for increasing your knowledge and directing your thoughts toward something beneficial to your success.

Emotional:

Guard your emotions by cultivating and maintaining positive relationships. Consider asking someone who is successful in your field to mentor you. Also, ask your family and friends about their goals and hold one another accountable with achieving them. Be sure to make time for yourself as well, though. Spending time alone can ensure that you don’t get distracted. While you’re spending time with yourself, stay positive with relaxing music and educational podcasts.

Sleep Well

Getting adequate sleep is a vital part of working to your full potential. When you sleep well and are well-rested, you wake up ready to tackle the day. Some tips for getting better sleep include the following:

  • Turn off your tech devices. One hour before bed, start to wind down by turning your devices off. This way, your mind can be freed of the day-to-day hustle and bustle, and your eyes can get a rest from the blue light emitted from your phone or computer screen. Pro Tip: Check your smartphone’s display settings to see if it has a “Night Shift” color grade option. Also, check your clock setting to set a “Bedtime” reminder. This way, your phone will inform you of when you should get ready for bed to ensure that you obtain your desired hours of sleep.
  • Cut out naps. Taking a nap seems like a good idea after a long day at work or school. However, doing this can actually hinder your sleep when you’re ready to hit the sack later that night. Therefore, you might end up staying up later than you should in the long run. So, instead of taking a mid-day nap, opt for an activity that will give you a boost of energy and push your way through.
  • Create a sleep routine. Aim to go to bed and wake up around the same time – even on weekends. If you create positive sleeping habits, when you rise the next morning, your day will flow much more smoothly.
