We’re halfway through the 2017 Turkeys for Troops event, and the turnout this year has been better than ever. Scores of cars have come through the dealership, yet the lines have been moving quickly and military members have left happy, turkeys in tow.
An Early Start
The first turkey was given away around 7:45 a.m., and there hasn’t been much of a lull since then. Even though the event officially began at 9, people began lining up early this morning, and volunteers and staff arrived even earlier. Set-up began at 7 a.m., and turkeys were poised and ready for takeoff before the first cars entered the line.
Organizations from all over Boerne have come out to support Turkeys for Troops. We’ve seen high school FFA groups, the local chapter of Veterans of Foreign Wars, and executive members of the Red Cross. Along with that, sponsors like Walmart, iHeart Media, and Dr. Pepper have given time and money to support the multi-faceted operation that is Turkeys for Troops.
At 1 p.m., Wells Fargo, Military Warriors Support Foundation, and Toyota of Boerne will present a combat-injured solider with a mortgage-free home. Along with the presentation, guests will hear a special word from owner Vic Vaughan.
Be on the lookout for exclusive interviews and in-depth looks into the faces and places behind the event.
Still Time to Get a Turkey
If you are a current or retired member of the United States military, come to Toyota of Boerne until 6 p.m. today to receive a free frozen turkey as a gesture of gratitude for your service. We’ll see you here!
