Peggy’s on the Green may be the finest meal you’ll find in Boerne. Mark Bohannon—the owner and chef at Bohannon’s in San Antonio—recently fancied the idea of a South-inspired, all-American restaurant, and he decided to open it in Boerne. Named for Mark’s late mother, the restaurant is located in the historical Kendall Inn, a 19th century stagecoach stop that’s offered Texas hospitality since 1859.
The restaurant came to Boerne in 2016, and guests can enjoy a cocktail on the broad, wraparound porch. Inside the 19th-century dining rooms, guests can enjoy a menu filled with familiar tastes from area farms accentuated by beef and mesquite smoke synonymous with the Hill Country.
Peggy’s on the Green is open for lunch Tuesday-Thursday from 11-2 p.m. and for dinner from 5-9 p.m., Friday and Saturday for lunch from 11-2 p.m. and for dinner from 5-10 p.m., and on Sunday for brunch from 11-2 p.m. and for dinner from 5-9 p.m.
The lunch menu includes light fare. Salads, soups, and sandwiches are available, including a signature offering—Peggy’s Citrus Fruit Salad, which includes ruby red grapefruit, candied pecans, avocado, local greens, and a poppyseed dressing—and a “Southern” take on the Cuban sandwich: pulled pork, pit ham, Swiss cheese with whole grain mustard and bread and butter pickles.
You’ll also find larger dishes on the lunch menu like the Traditional Maine Lobster Roll, Chicken Pot Pie, Salisbury Steak, steaks, and burgers.
At dinner, start with some of the more unique appetizer offerings like the Chicken Fried Quail or Peggy’s Deviled Blue Crab Dip. Add an entrée like the Cast Iron Double Pork Chop—served with roasted new potatoes and an apple frisee salad—or the Seared Wild Caught Salmon. A larger offering of steaks is also on the dinner menu, including the 24 oz. bone-in ribeye for the hungriest at your table.
At Peggy’s on the Green, the table is encouraged to share a selection of sides with their meals, including Fried Green Tomatoes, Bourbon Brussel Sprouts, Lobster Macaroni & Cheese, and Buttermilk Biscuits served with Whipped Plugra Texas Honey Butter and Texas Honey.
If you still have room, treat yourself to a slice of Peggy’s Chess Pie. You can’t go wrong with the Apple Cinnamon Crumble or the Sweet Potato Crème Brulee either. Take one of Marie’s Sweet Treats for the road—Warm Banana Bread, Chocolate Chip Cookies, or Mini Strawberry Cupcakes.
